The Story Behind JayOso
JayOso vs. The World is a project created in the time throughout the pandemic of 2020. It was my first full year without traveling, and I had time to reflect on my previous trips that I was apart of in the last few years. One of the questions I had asked myself was, “How can I keep these memories alive outside of my phone?” I had taken many pictures over the years, and a majority of them were from those trips. I had made lookbooks of my first trip a few years prior, but I had just threw them together with no thought. With more travels under my belt, I wanted to showcase where I have been to others in a creative way and give them an inside look at these different cities and countries. JayOso vs. The World is a visual experience that captures countries in a photobook. My goal is to inspire people around me to travel the world. At one point, I was just dreaming of seeing places outside of my hometown and thinking maybe I could visit these places witnessed in video games and television. Then it began when I was on my first overseas trip. Traveling outside of the country changed my perspective as the world is so much open than I initially realized while living in one city your whole life. During these trips, I had taken many pictures to document all of the places I had visited. After returning home, I usually post all my photos on social media or send them to close friends if they ask. I had discovered I never look back at those trips unless I scroll through my camera roll on my phone. I wanted these photos to feel special when I look back through them, which required me not to be trapped in my phone. I like that tangible feeling to hold a book in your hands and look through the experience first hand rather than on a phone or other device; it serves more meaning as a collectible item to hold onto for years to go back and review it. Photobooks or lookbooks are the methods I wanted to do for this set of series I plan to roll out. I am taking time to edit them and create a visual story through my photos. I want to present quality to whoever reads and feel a sense of what these places are from my perspective. In the end, I like the reader to take from JayOso vs. The World is to travel themselves and experience life outside of home.
What is JayOso Vs. World
JayOso Vs. World is about telling stories through photos from travels all over the world Detailed and intimate photos of what these countries represent from a travelers perspective. I captured many images where I felt were interesting and distinctive which made that country stand out. JayOso Vs. World represent not just new locations but people, places, food etc. The world in not limited to one I want to showcase my skills in a variety of landscapes and cityscapes from locally from my home based in Atlanta to far reaches of the world that placed myself in Southeast Asia to Japan. Since I began to travel in the last few years I started to document all of the places I’ve visited to keep as memories. I truly want to visually tell stories through each and every one of my photos.
Goals of JayOso Vs. World
I want to showcase my art to the world and would like to have supports that would be invested in my vision. This project started as a way to show my work from traveling but I decided to expand it from travel photography to street and portrait. I don’t want to limit myself to one type of photography but develop the skills for any type of scenario. To showcase my art for telling stories through photos print series will be in development with also a compilation of photobooks which will be in the store in a future date. In the end, I want to show people grand landscapes that would hopefully inspire them to document their own journey and travel the world. This is my first time being open with my art and I would hope people would be interested in supporting my journey.
